prayers for birth

Labor and childbirth are transformative moments. Painful and powerful passages almost beyond words.

Despite being such a common human experience, each birth is a unique journey that demands everything a mother has to give: strength, patience, determination, and a deep selfless love. But how do we pray during birth? How do we pray for those giving birth?

In honor of the life-giving work that mothers do and fathers, friends and family witness, I’ve collected some of my favorite posts on prayer for birth:

So many Scripture passages evoke labor pains and childbirth. So many people come here each day in search of prayers for labor and delivery – for themselves or those they love. Both these facts speak truth about birth as a profound spiritual experience, worthy of prayer and reflection.

What prayers or practices have you found helpful for birthing? Please share your wisdom here!

    • Lydia, I’m so glad! I hope you can put them to good use. :) And please let me know if you have any more to share or add to this list – I’d love to compile a wider list of resources.

I am having a Blessingway soon and have printed out the St Patricks Breastplate prayer….. Perfect as a sharing prayer and gift for guests not to mention to pray and meditate on during the hopeful vaginal birth of my 3rd child after 2 cesareans.

Thanks again and God Bless…. will be back.

    Sunnie:)

    • Beautiful, Sunnie! Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your story. I love the idea of using St. Patrick’s prayer for your blessingway! My thoughts go with you as you prepare for this good work ahead…
